Trustees
Trustee Resources
The Finger Lakes Library System is a rich resource for member libraries and their boards, providing guidance on policy writing, strategic planning, director evaluation, budget and financial reviews, referendum planning, advocacy, and more. We can also design and deliver workshops for your board on any topics from the Handbook for Library Trustees of New York State (2023 Edition).
Thank you for your commitment to your community and your library.
Trustee Education Requirement
Beginning January 1, 2023, trustees are required to complete a minimum of two hours of trustee education annually. (Education Law §2-d).
Per Education Law, trustee education topics may include financial oversight, accountability, fiduciary responsibilities and the general powers and duties of a library trustee. Libraries should consult with their public library system about acceptable trustee education topics, formats and activities.
Trustee Newsletter
Every other month, we send an e-newsletter so trustees can stay up-to-date on key issues affecting their libraries. You’ll also find information on upcoming trainings and workshops as well as highlights on important sections of the Handbook for Library Trustees of New York State.
