e-Content

The Finger Lakes Library System provides access to OverDrive/Libby, Mango Languages, HeritageQuest, JobNow, and other databases for our member libraries and their patrons.

For statistical data on our e-Content collection, visit our Web-Stats page.

OverDrive

The Finger Lakes Library System funds the OverDrive platform fee and encourages all member libraries to contribute to the selection and maintenance of our shared OverDrive collection. Member libraries have the option to select and pay for items themselves, or to contribute to the e-Content fund.  Annual contribution requests are sent out in November.

Currently, the selection of titles on OverDrive is done by the Member Services Librarian at FLLS and member library selectors.  The e-Content collection is selected in accordance with the FLLS Collection Development Policy.  An Overdrive Marketplace Users account is required for your library to purchase from Overdrive.  For more details contact Heidi at heckerson@flls.org.

Read Across the Region: Reciprocal Lending Agreement

Finger Lakes Library System patrons now have expanded access to OverDrive materials through a Reciprocal Lending Arrangement (RLA) with the OWWL Library System and the Southern Tier Library System (STLS).  Learn more at Read Across the Region.

Big Library Read

Big Library Read is an opportunity for those with a valid library card to read the same digital title at the same time without any wait lists or holds. Participating in this event allows your library to offer a new simultaneous use title for community-wide access from your library at no cost. It’s a worldwide digital version of a local book club, and an opportunity for your library to generate more interest in your digital collection beyond the bestsellers. This program typically happens in February, May, July, and November.  Watch for updates from FLLS on titles and marketing assets.

Visit Big Library Read for information on current or upcoming titles.

Public Library CONNECT

The Finger Lakes Library System has partnered with local schools to make our OverDrive Collection accessible to students who do not have a public library card.  Students at participating schools in the FLLS service area can borrow ebooks and audiobooks using their Sora school login credentials.  (Sora is OverDrive’s student reading app.)

e-Content Committee

Beginning in February 2024, eContent discussions around trends, best practices, new products and contribution guidelines will happen at our bi-monthly FALCONS meetings.  In the past the eContent Committee met quarterly.
