Code of Conduct for Programs

Finger Lakes Library System strives to provide a safe and respectful environment that includes space for the open exchange of ideas. We value your attendance at System meetings, webinars, and workshops, and are dedicated to providing a positive experience for all participants and members. We want all System events to be welcoming, supportive, and comfortable for all levels of staff at our member libraries. We are committed to Inclusive, Diverse, Equitable, and Accessible Services. We expect that all attendees and visitors to the system will treat speakers, System staff, and other attendees with respect. Participation in discussions and activities should be courteous at all times. All attendees are expected to exercise tolerance of the perspectives and opinions of all present. We ask that you are thoughtful in sharing and listening. Please use discretion with what you share from the event, it is expected that you will maintain confidentiality of what has been shared by attendees.

To encourage learning and critical thinking, as well as to protect privacy, the use of A.I. note takers at any in-person or virtual System event is expressly forbidden. If this technology is required for accessibility purposes, attendees must indicate this during registration. Please use discretion with photos and videos at in-person events. For virtual events, photographs and recordings are expressly forbidden without prior authorization by System staff. System staff may record virtual events and attendees will be notified in advance.

We do not tolerate harassment in any form. Some behaviors are, therefore, specifically prohibited:

  • Harassment or intimidation based on race, religion, language, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, disability, appearance, or other group status.
  • Sexual harassment or intimidation, including unwelcome sexual attention, stalking (physical or virtual), or unsolicited physical contact.
  • Yelling or threatening behavior (verbally or physically).

If an attendee engages in disruptive or harassing behavior during a virtual or in-person event, System staff may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the event or removal from the online platform.
