Job Opportunity: Director at Candor Free Library

Candor Free Library, located in Candor, New York, is seeking an organized, creative, and community-oriented person to fill the position of Library Director. Our library’s mission is to provide expert book and materials selection and to aid the individual in the pursuit of education, information, pleasure, research, and the creative use of leisure time.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong computer skills, verbal and written communication skills, and problem-solving skills. They would have the ability to establish effective working relationships with library staff and volunteers, and feel comfortable serving as the public face of the library in the community.

The Library Director is responsible for maintaining a welcome environment for patrons, supervising staff, working with the Board of trustees, developing programming, managing the collection, grant writing, record-keeping and oversight of the budget, and managing the library facility.

Minimum qualifications: Two years of education or training beyond high school; experience working with people of all ages; knowledge of computer technology and ability to use online catalog system; and the ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment. Library experience is helpful.

Compensation: $16.50 – $19/hour based on education and experience. This is a part-time position of 15-18 hours a week, sometimes requiring the director to adopt a flexible work schedule for events, programs, and meetings that may involve some weekends and evenings. There are no health benefits.
