In grateful appreciation
to
Howard J. Finley
Without whose help this Bicentenial history would not have been possible.
Mr. Finley, born in Michigan, came to Weedsport in 1938 as teacher of Vocational Agriculture and served the school system until his retirement on Spetember 1, 1966.
In 1959 Mr. Finley was appointed Weedsport Historian and later Historian of the Town of Brutus, which position he still retains. He is also Museum Director the the Old Brutus Historical Society.
When he retired, one of his goals was to update existing books on Brutus-Weedsport History. The following pages are the result of much time comsuming research on his part.
Mr. Finley is a member of the Town of Brutus Planning Board, and member of the Central New York Regional Planning board. he has published a Centenial History of St. Joseph's Parish. He was also originator of theErie Canal Aqueduct Project. Since September 1975 he has served as President of the New York Soil Conservation Districts Association
Weedsport and the Town of Brutus are most fortunate that Howard and Helen Finley have made Weedsport their permanent home and have contributed to recording and updating local history!
