Dr. Cyrus Powers,
physician, Civil War surgeon, world traveler and community leader. His
personal library was the basis for the Powers Library collection.

Abigail Powers Fillmore, wife of President Millard Fillmore and aunt of Dr.
Cyrus Powers, is perhaps best remembered for starting the first library in the
White House. Apparently, this former school teacher considered the absence of
books in the Executive Mansion to be a grave omission. She preferred reading to
almost any other activity.

Inclement Weather Policy
The

policy is to close down if the Moravia schools close down. We often have to
make that call late on the previous day, late at night, or very early in the
morning. Once we have made the call, we will remain closed for the entire day,
even if later on in the afternoon the weather improves. This is also the policy
of the Finger Lakes Library System in general.

Directions
The library is at 29 Church Street, Moravia, NY

THE FINGER LAKES LIBRARY SYSTEM
NOW OFFERS DOWNLOADABLE AUDIO BOOKS AND EBOOKS
Best-selling titles available anytime, anywhere
(Ithaca, NY) – November 12, 2007 – The Finger
Lakes Library System (FLLS) has expanded their services with the
addition of downloadable audio books and eBooks. All library
card holders within Cayuga, Cortland, Seneca,
Tioga and Tompkins are able to check out and download digital
audio books and eBooks, anytime, anywhere by visiting
http://flls.lib.overdrive.com. There are no worries about
late fees or overdue notices; the downloaded titles
automatically expire.
To check out a downloadable audio book, you need
a valid library card, personal computer, and Internet
connection. Simply go to
www.flls.org and click on the “Download Audio Books” icon or
go to your library catalog and choose the Digital Downloads tab.
You can then install the free OverDrive Media Console software
and begin browsing the collection of titles. Titles can be
checked out and downloaded to your personal computer. Once
downloaded, the audio book files can be transferred to a
portable MP3 player, and some audio books can even be burned to
CD.
“We are very excited to offer many of the same best-selling
authors that are in our physical collection in digital format,
including James Patterson, Patricia Cornwell, and even Agatha
Christie,” said Karen Creenan, FLLS Executive Director. “Our
library users have the comfort of accessing the digital
collection from anywhere, whenever they want.”
The OverDrive Media Console free software will operate on
computers running Windows 98SE and above, including Microsoft
Vista. At this time, OverDrive’s downloadable audio books
service is not compatible with Apple computers and iPods, due to
Apple’s rights management restrictions. To read eBook titles,
patrons will download the free reader software for Adobe eBooks
and Mobipocket eBooks.
The free and easy to use service is licensed by FLLS from
OverDrive, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio.
