Dr. Cyrus Powers, physician, Civil War surgeon, world traveler and community leader. His personal library was the basis for the Powers Library collection.
Abigail Powers Fillmore, wife of President Millard Fillmore and aunt of Dr. Cyrus Powers, is perhaps best remembered for starting the first library in the White House. Apparently, this former school teacher considered the absence of books in the Executive Mansion to be a grave omission. She preferred reading to almost any other activity.

Library Hours
Holiday Schedule Powers Library policy is to follow the lead of the Finger Lakes Library System and to close when the System offices are closed. Deliveries and assistance are not available on those days. Occasionally our Saturday hours are also affected by holiday closures, either when the holiday falls on a Saturday or when it affects the entire weekend. Grace periods for returning books will always be in effect over holiday closures. For the remainder of 2008 Powers Library will be closed in observance of holidays on the following dates:
Inclement Weather PolicyThe library may close down unexpectedly now and then due to inclement weather. Our policy is to close down if the Moravia schools close down. We often have to make that call late on the previous day, late at night, or very early in the morning. Once we have made the call, we will remain closed for the entire day, even if later on in the afternoon the weather improves. This is also the policy of the Finger Lakes Library System in general.
DirectionsThe library is at 29 Church Street, Moravia, NY 13118. From NY 38, turn East at the Post Office (Church Street) for 1 block on the left. The library property is on the left at the corner of Church and Smith Streets. The entrance to the library parking lot is on Smith Street.
