The FLLS
system contains many resources for new readers and ESL/ESOL students. To
locate materials in the catalog, try searching for the following
subjects:
Learning Express:
This database offers many tutorials and practice
tests (including GED) for adult learners and native Spanish speakers.
You can log on from any computer with internet access, all you need is a
library card from a member library.
Tumblebooks: E-Books for Kids! With this early literacy tool, kids
can listen and read along to animated talking picture books. Materials
are available in English, Spanish and French.
Free Tutoring Services:
The following organizations offer free
tutoring services for adults who need help reading, writing, or speaking
English. Many also offer tutoring in computer skills:
Boards of Cooperative Educational
Services (BOCES):
BOCES sites offer many adult educational
programs, including GED classes, ESL classes and the Even Start Family
Literacy Project.
Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES (includes sites in Seneca County)
Early Literacy:
- The Family Reading Partnership is a local nonprofit which promotes early literacy through many family-oriented programs.
- The Even Start Family Literacy Project provides literacy tutoring for low-income parents while their children attend an early literacy class. To find a program near you, contact your local BOCES.

News For You - A weekly newspaper for adult learners. Read and listen online to the top current events stories each week.
New York State GED Testing Office - Information about how to prepare for and take the GED, including local resources. To find a testing center and a list of upcoming test dates near you, follow this link.
PBS Literacy Link - Free online resources for adult learners and their teachers. Resources include tutorials for developing essential workplace skills and GED preparation.
