Are you a job seeker in Cayuga, Cortland, Seneca, Tioga or Tompkins county? This  list of online resources can help you search for a job, explore and pursue a new career, and find help during a job transition.

 

General Resources:

 

Career One Stop - The U.S. Dept. of Labor's official online resource for job seekers. It includes many excellent tools for job searching, exploring careers, navigating education and training opportunities, and finding help during a job transition.

NEW! Job Now - Get live, one-on-one assistance from a job coach for free! This online service provides expert resume help, real-time interview coaching and career advice. There are services to help with every step of a job search, including test preparation, study tools, writing assistance, and more. Sessions are available in both English and Spanish. Provided by the NYS Library.

Learning Express - This database offers practice licensing, certification, and aptitude tests for careers, GED preparation, computer skills courses, and a Job Search & Workplace Skills Learning Center. Log on from any computer with internet access.


List of Online Job Posting Websites - A list of resources for searching job postings online.

 

List of Career Planning Resources - A list of resources for identifying and pursuing a lifelong career.

 

List of Tools for Success During a Job Search - Tools for creating a resume and cover letter, tips for interviewing and networking for career success, and more.

 

List of Local Employment Resources - A list of local resources for finding a job, organized by county, including local Career One Stop Centers.

 

Sources for Assistance during a Job Transition - Out of work? Many resources are available to help you, including unemployment insurance, government programs, health insurance options, legal help, and more.

The Prime Objective: A Guide to Preparing the Job Seeking Ex-Offender - This resource guide is provided by the New York Department of Labor. Click the link to download this pdf.

 

Know Your Rights: Understanding Juvenile and Criminal Records and their Impact on Employment -  This booklet explains the barriers that job seekers with criminal records face, and contains tips to improve the chances of being hired. Job Accommodation Network (JAN) - Have a question about the Americans with Disabilities Act? JAN is the leading source of free, expert, and confidential guidance on workplace accommodations and disability employment issues.

NYS Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities (VESID) - Services to prepare eligible individuals for employment in a variety of careers, from entry-level to professional positions.

NYS Workers with Disabilities Program - A coordinated effort by New York State to place individuals with disabilities in entry-level State jobs.

NYS Office For the Aging Employment Resources - Information about the Older American Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP or Title V), the Workforce Investment Act (WIA), and how your local Office for the Aging can help you find employment.

AARP: Work - Resources and tips for job seekers who are 50+ years old.

Experience Works - This nonprofit helps low-income seniors get the training they need to find good jobs in their communities.

National Older Worker Career Center - This nonprofit provides full-time and part-time opportunities to experienced workers through two programs: the Senior Environmental Employment (SEE) Program and the Agricultural Conservation Experienced Services (ACES) Program.

RetirementJobs.com - This job bank matches older jobseekers to "age-friendly" employers seeking experienced workers.
