Placing Out-of-System ILLs through Polaris
After you Start PowerPAC, select the “Search” tab. You will not be able to Search WorldCat with the “Quick Library Search” option in the event you have to place an out-of-system ILL.
On the Search screen, Select PAC (FLLSPRO) in the Using: box; (this is the default)
Enter your search terms and click on Go!
Please Note the Special Information on Out of System ILL’s (Please Read) link in the middle of the screen. This details the types of items that are not available through OCLC, and the procedures related to fees and renewals.
If, after your search, your results indicate “No titles found (0 hits), change Using: PAC (FLLSPRO) to WorldCat (OCLC) and click on Go! The same search will be conducted on WorldCat.
You will get a list of results. When you locate the item you want click on Place Hold Request.
Then enter the patron’s Barcode Number and Password and click on Log In.
You will then have another opportunity to check the citation and to read the Special Information on Out of System ILL’s before you Submit the Request. There is also a reminder to log out after the session is completed.
Please Note – If placing this hold will exceed the limit of five active holds per patron account, the patron will see this message:
Next is a final Reminder that this is an Out-of-System ILL request with information abouthold fees, if applicable, and any ILL fees. Click Continue (to place the request) or Cancel (to cancel the request).
Here is a final conformation that your request has been placed.
If you conduct a search on WorldCat and you select Place a Hold Request on an item owned by a library in the FLLS you will see the message displayed below. By selecting Yes and Continue you will place a hold on the locally owned item and your transaction will be over.
If you select No and Continue, a message will display with the reminder that this is an Out-of-System ILL request with information about hold fees, if applicable, and any ILL fees. ClickCancel.
You may not place a hold on a locally owned item.
