Welcome to Summer Reading!

It is time once again for the summer reading program.  Nationwide, public libraries are starting their projects to encourage everyone to read all summer long.  This year’s theme is “Make a Splash – Read!” and sign ups start today, the 21st of June, at the Groton Public Library.  The program goes through the end of July.

Bring your child in to get registered and they will get a goodie bag with a reading log, temporary tatoo, bookmark/clock, coloring and game pages, and more!  If they read the number of books they agree to read over the summer, they’ll win a book at the end of the program – and both Borders and Barnes and Noble are giving away books to kids who read this summer.  Each book they read they can also hang a fish on the walls of the library.

We are also having events.  On Tuesday the 6th, 13th, and 20th, Mrs. Radford will be doing a craft session at the fire house next door.  Pre-registration is required.

We are also continuing our tradition of Thursday night events.  In conjunction with the Community Arts Partnership, we are having events each Thursday evening in July.  All are free and open to the public.

July 1st – Mrs. McPuppet, local favorite featuring classic folktales with puppets and whimsical songs.

July 8th – Robert Rogers Puppetry presents Rainbow Fish in the Deep Blue Sea, a story of an innocent game of hide and seek gone awry.

July 15th – Merry Go Round Theater presents Alice in Wonderland.  Each year, Merry Go Round Theater is one of our most popular presentations.

July 22nd – Andy “The Music Man” morse present songs tailored to this year’s Make a Splash theme.

July 29th – our grand finale with our reading awards and the annual ice cream social.

So join us this summer and remember that while we don’t want books in the water, you should Make a Splash… Read!
