FLLS Out-of-System Interlibrary Loan
OUT-OF-SYSTEM Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Patron Information
If your search of the FLLS catalog yields no results, you can search the WorldCat database through the PAC to access the resources of other public, school, academic, and special library collections nationwide. FLLS, through participation in the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) ILL network, will request the item on your behalf.
Who may place Out-of-System ILLs:
Any in-system persons who has a library card at one of the FLLS member libraries may place a request for an Out-of-System item as long as they do not have an excessive financial balance. Please contact your library staff if you have a problem placing a request.
Patrons may only have five active Out-of-System requests on their library card at any one time. If the patron has five active Out-of-System requests, once one of the requests has been processed and is on the local library’s hold shelf, the patron may place another Out-of-System request.
Please do not place requests for the following types of items:
- Anything currently owned by any of the FLLS libraries.
- New materials– published in the current year.
- Mass-Market Paperbacks.
- DVDs & VHS.
- Music CDs.
- Books-on-Tape & Books-on-CD.
- Electronic Resources including games
- Reference Books – The lending library may be willing to copy some small number of pages given sufficient information.
- Rare Books, which may include some genealogy.
- Bound or entire issues of periodicals.
If your library charges for hold requests or reshelving fees, your account will be charged accordingly. In almost all cases there is no additional fee for interlibrary loans (ILL). However, if the lending library charges for an ILL, we will contact you before we complete the request. You must pay the fee before you receive the book. Patrons will be charged $1.00/day per overdue ILL item regardless of their local library’s overdue fine policy. You will be charged for any lost or damaged item.
The lending library determines the loan period and if an item may be renewed. Overdue items may jeopardize our ability to continue borrowing items. Please request a renewal at least three days before the due date. You may not request a renewal for an overdue item. We can not guarantee that renewal requests will be granted by the lending library nor can we guarantee a specific time extension. Only one renewal per item!
