Director's
Corner
by Kay Zaharis
Is spring here?
We see it in the library.
Several volunteers have given their time and energy
to dusting the shelves and books.
The staff is very grateful to those people; we see
the difference. I
hope that when you come to visit your library, you too will
see things sparkle
We have also begun weeding our collection. Since we
have multiple copies of fiction books which have not circulated in
many years, duplicates are being removed.
One of the benefits of weeding is to remove the “clutter”
so the “good stuff” is more obvious.
Hopefully, you too will notice some books on the shelves which
you hadn’t previously seen, and you will be enticed to check them
out.

New This Month
We
added nearly 20 new audio books in March.
Please
note - We have started putting spine labels on the audio
books. During the process, the audio books will continue to be
arranged alphabetically by author’s last name.
For the present time the fiction and non-fiction
remain together. In
the future, however, the fiction will be separated from
the non-fiction. Our
goal is to provide easier access to the audio books.
We
also added dozens of new health books, many from the Mayo
Clinic Health Information series, on subjects including
vegetarian recipes, yoga, stress reduction, alternative
medicines, vitamin and mineral supplements.
We
have new books on working with concrete, new decks and
patios, fence and gate ideas, wood flooring, home spas,
bricklaying, lighting ideas, water gardens and landscapes,
as well as a guide to working with pelts, fur and leather
and a six volume set of fishing book which include
baitfishing, trolling, and ice fishing.
Reminder
Some
of our extremely
popular magazines for the current month are not found on the
periodical racks located in the general reading area, but
are located behind the circulation desk. Please ask our
library personnel for the magazine you wish to read if you
do not find it. There
is a new list available of our nearly 300 periodicals.

Children’s Room Notes
On Saturday, April 24, the Cortland
Area Child Care Council will hold a Children’s Free Fair
at the County Office Building gym. Local child care
providers, early childhood educators, and community
resources will have booths representing various community
locations with fun and games for young children and
information for adults.
The Family Reading Partnership of Cortland County
will have a “library” booth where you can listen to Lois
Ehlert’s “Feathers for Lunch,” make a craft, and sign
up for a book raffle. After
the fair, remember to stop into the Children’s Room at the
library and take home other great stories.
Jessica Hines, Children’s Room
supervisor, who is on the Advisory Board of the Family
Reading Partnership of Cortland County, will be there part
of the time to greet you.
The fair will be from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
