Connectivity issue with Road Runner and a Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router

We have started seeing an issue that is preventing access to the Library PowerPac Web Catalog when there is the combination of Road Runner and a Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router.  The problem is that only the Catalog Header displays on the screen and that takes a long time to load.  We are not sure why this is happening but it appears to have started around the 1st of October 2009.  The user may also be noticing a general slowness loading other Websites.  We were able to fix the problem for the 3 patrons that have reported experiencing this issue by upgrading the router's firmware.  The firmware is readily available on the Linksys site and is free.  Instructions and  links to the Linksys documentation follow:

  1. Go to http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/support and enter your Router Model  "WRT54G".

  2. Click on the "Get Downloads" button.

  3. Select the version of your router which can be found on the bottom label next to the model number.

  4. Scroll down and click on the Firmware Download link and save it to your Desktop or another location you are comfortable and familiar with.

  5. Access the Router's Web Administration.  If you aren't sure how to do this follow the directions in the link(http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=3676).

  6. Once you are logged into the router, click on the Administration link and then on the Upgrade Firmware link.

  7. At the Please select a file to upgrade Click Browse and select the extracted firmware upgrade file this will be in the location you downloaded the file to in step 4 and has a file extension of .bin.

  8. Click on Upgrade and follow the on-screen instructions.

  9. Allow your router to restart.  You may need to restart your computer.

  10. You should now be able to access the PowerPac Web Catalog and you may see a noticeable increase of your Internet connection.
