NYLA Needs Your Stories

From Michael Borges, Executive Director of NYLA:

NYLA is gathering information about circulation, patron use, and anecdotal stories about the use of libraries during difficult economic times that reaffirm that libraries are even more of an essential public service during a recession.  This information will be used to bolster our advocacy efforts to restore $5 million cut in Library Aid and to be used in press release.

for example:
"Here at Guilderland I can give you a recent scenario from Jean Marie at the Circulation desk.  Two young women (in their twenties) stopped in to the library to update their cards. They both admitted they had not been here in a while, they usually go to Borders but since money is tight, they thought why not try the library again? They also picked up a flyer for "Viva Latin Jazz: a series of Latin Jazz Concerts and Events." They were amazed to find that all the programs are free!"

Do any of you have a story you can share?  If so, please e-mail them to Marisa and I’ll pass them along to NYLA.   Thanks!

§  Linda Beins and Jan will teach the Basic Excel workshop. The first part of the workshop will focus on basic functionality such as setting up a spreadsheet, cell formatting, headers, footers and basic formulas. The second half of the workshop will focus on more complicated formulas, creating charts and graphs and more advanced functionality.

§  Marisa will focus designing a publication in Advanced Publisher - what catches your eye when you first look at a flyer? what fonts are more readable than others?
