LAST WEEK’S QUESTION OF THE WEEK  This week Carolyn Goodman died at the age of 91. She was a clinical psychologist and a political activist. However her obituary appeared in the NY Times probably because of her connection to an event that happened 41 years ago in Mississippi. What was that event?

Julia Schult went directly to the NY Times website to find Carolyn Goodman’s obituary; Julia wrote that Goodman was the mother of Andrew Goodman, one of three civil rights workers slain in Mississippi, leading to the march on Selma. The NY Times can also be accessed from the Custom Newspaper and National Newspaper databases, both from GALE. The Associated Press obituary of Carolyn Goodman that appeared in the Chicago Tribune & Washington Post can be found in America’s Newspapers (Newsbank).

Bonus Question: What is a group of jellyfish called?

Julia and I both did a Google search; the results listed several sites that noted that a group of jellyfish is called a “smack”; other names cited were brood, smuth, smuck, and fluther. I first heard of a smack of jellyfish from the lecturer at the Monterrey Bay Aquarium. Check out http://www.mbayaq.org/efc/efc_se/se_jla.asp, the Monterrey Bay Aquarium’s exhibit, “Jellies: a Living Art”, to see some amazing examples of the jellyfish housed in this aquarium.

THIS WEEK’S QUESTION OF THE WEEK Where does the month September get its name? Name a president who was born in September; name two presidents who died in September.
