 Another reminder concerning Vendor Reimbursement:

  • The last date to submit your request for this year’s vendor reimbursement is Nov. 1, 2006. It is not necessary to submit monthly or quarterly requests for reimbursement since payment will not be made until after the Nov. 1 deadline.

    Please note that only those requests for reimbursement based on invoices dated between Nov. 1, 2005 and Oct. 31, 2006 will be accepted.

    Any requests for reimbursement from invoices dated before Nov. 1, 2005 will not be honored; these invoices should have been included in your 2005 submission for reimbursement.

 

Don’t forget to request copies of the 2005-2006 Annual Report for your trustees and staff.  Fill out the green form that was sent to you or e-mail me with the number of reports that you need. Thanks.

 

There will be no youth news on Friday, October 27, and Friday, November 3, as I will be at a multicultural conference and then at NYLA.  I will be out of the office, October 26 & 27 and November 1-3.  If you need help please contact Marisa.

Kids BookFest November 11th  

Your library is invited to participate –sign-up to be librarian, Molly McGrew (FRP will provide her jacket for you to wear for an hour or two on the day of the fest.) Please send a photo board featuring your library staff & highlights so your library can be present for the 2,000 kids who attend.  Don’t miss this fest that promotes libraries & reading!  Your library can borrow Molly’s jacket before the fest too!  Call me to make arrangements.

The Finger Lakes Library System is offering member library directors, staff and trustees the opportunity to learn how to effectively use the newspaper electronic resources available to them through the System. 

èIf a patron wants full-text newspaper articles about the flooding this summer in the    Southern Tier, where would you begin looking for them??

 èWhere would you look for full-text newspaper articles about the Los Angeles school district reform??

èIf you are unsure of how to answer these questions, come to this wonderful training session:

“NOVEL (New York Online Virtual Electronic Library) –

Keeps You Current with Today’s Events”

 Training Schedule:

Wed., November 8, 2006—at Ulysses Library, Trumansburg (1 opening left)

Fri., November 10, 2006—at Weedsport Library (2 openings left)

 Times for all days 9:00—11:00 a.m.  

 Participants will learn: 

üHow to navigate in the available newspaper databases, including: 

                        > Custom Newspapers

                       > National Newspaper Index

                        > New York State Newspapers

                        > TopicSearch

 

ü Which titles and years are covered in these databases.

üHow to search them effectively.

ü This workshop is hands-on so there will be a laptop for your use.

Trainer:  Jennifer Schlossberg is an Adult Services Reference librarian at the Tompkins County Public Library.  She manages TCPL’s electronic presence, including their databases and the website, while still maintaining her love for books and answering questions at the reference desk.  She has coordinated electronic resources for over nine years at both academic and public libraries.

How do I remove a block from a patron’s record? If the block was added manually, you can remove it in Patron Status.

Search for the patron’s record using Patron Status

Open up the patron Record

Left click on the General screen icon

This screen displays

Highlight the block you wish to delete and left click on Delete Block

 

2006 Annual Reports

The annual reports (PDF documents) for public libraries and public library systems are available on the DLD web site at <http://www.nysl.nysed.gov/libdev/libs/index.html> (scroll down to where it says Bibliostat Collect information (in .PDF format only)).

 Bibliostat Collect is not ready for input yet. 

But, you can print out a copy from the PDF format and start collecting your data just the same – get a head start on the report!

NOTE: There are no substantive changes to the public library report.
