No. 06-31                                                                                                                    August 4, 2006

     Polaris “Tip of the Week”

Several dusty book reports have been added to Report Manager on the Web.

  • AA-Weeding Shelflist – 1 year: This will print a list of items that have not circulated within a year but exclude items that have been added in the past year.  You must choose the library and the collection code.

  • AA-Weeding Shelflist – 3 years: This will print a list of items that have not circulated within 3 years but exclude items that have been added in the past 3 years.  You must choose the library and the collection code.

  • AA-Weeding Shelflist – 5 years: This will print a list of items that have not circulated within 5 years but exclude items that have been added in the past 5 years.  You must choose the library and the collection code.

  • AA-Weeding Shelflist by Starting to Ending Call Number: This will produce a shelflist of items by library using a starting and ending call number without regard to the assigned collection code. You must choose the library and the starting and ending call number. If the call number includes a prefix (such as J or LT or F) you must include the prefix. This report ignores upper and lower case but recognizes hyphens; using J VHS will not retrieve records with J-VHS BUT using J-VHS will pick up records with JVHS and J-VHS. Another reason to be consistent when entering in call numbers. You might have to run two reports using both prefixes, fix the errors and run the report again. When you need a report of Fiction items, using F Aa as a starting call number and F Z as an ending call number will NOT give you all the records that have an author whose last name starts with Z, BUT will only give you items where the call number is F Z only. Using F Zz as an ending call number will retrieve ALL items where the author's name starts with a Z.

  • These are all found in the Cataloging folder and then in the Item folder.

Just a quick reminder: I have not received any information on the New York State Construction Grants to date. I will notify all library directors and board presidents, via email, as soon as I receive any communication from DLD.

     Thanks.
