Happy New Years!

Have you hired new staff in your library? Do you find some staff need more training in using Basic Polaris?

Send them to:

Polaris New Users Workshop

Friday Jan. 13th 9-3:30 pm

FLLS Conference Room

This workshop is geared towards those staff who have not worked with Polaris for very long or need additional training in certain areas. Topics will include some basics such as logging on, identifying icons, keyboard shortcuts, etc. I will also focus on Registering a Patron, Checkout, Checkin, Placing Holds, Searching and Patron Status.  There will be plenty of time to practice. Space is limited to 10 participants and those newly hired will be given preference.

Please sign up by Jan 10th either by sending me an email or a phone call - Jan Aguirre jaguirre@flls.org 273-4074 x36.   Include your library and the name of the person attending. If you cannot attend the all day session, please feel free to come for the afternoon only. The afternoon's topics will focus on searching, holds and some basic item maintenance.

Polaris Tip of the Week

12/30/05

One of the questions the Annual Report has asked for is the number of patrons in your chartered service area.

The Patron statistical class in the patron record tracks this information. There are two custom reports available in Report Manger on the web that will help you determine this information. Open the Public Services folder and then open the Patron Services folder. The report is entitled AA-Patron Statistical Count by Library. This report produces a count of your registered patrons by statistical class. The second report entitled AA-Patrons Without Stat Class by Library produces a list of patrons who do NOT have a statistical class assigned in their patron record. This report includes the patron ID number, the Patrons barcode, the patron’s name, and the date the patron was registered. This report should be used to correct this missing information.

If you want a quick reference to conferences and system meetings for 2006, go to our youth web page and click the link for 2006 calendar under the for librarians heading: http://www.flls.org/youth/calendar.htm

I will make updates as they are available.

Public Officials Guide 2006

The new updated Public Officials Guide will be in delivery next week – one copy for each library.  It is not yet posted on the FLLS website, but will be soon.

Annual Report Information

Your Annual Report packets will be in delivery next week as well.  I am mailing the financial people their packets, unless I don’t have a separate address for them, and then their packet will also be in delivery.

The Bibliostat Collect site is not yet up.  I will let you know as soon as it is up and  running.

The deadline to submit your report is February 14, 2006.

Correction from last week: The system is closed on Monday, January 16, 2006, so we will not have that day for you to come and work on your report.  My apologies for the error.
