Please RSVP to Annette by Friday, December 9 so we can have enough materials available for everyone. Hope to see you there!Partnerships for a Nation of Learners Community Collaboration Conference
Yesterday I attended a nationwide videoconference specifically for the community collaboration grant program between public radio stations, museums, and libraries. This grant has a March deadline for the coming year. However, the information applies to all partnership programs which funders love and enhances successful programs. The quick version is that partnerships are relationships worth cultivating, and will of course, take “work, commitment, dedication, and time.” But for institutions like libraries that “exist for the people we serve,” there is no better way to answer a community need. The steps outlined were to do the research to find out the community’s needs. Do not assume you know what your community needs are. See the needs as opportunities. Assess you strengths to meet the need and seek a partner who will offer the assets you are missing to offer the program. The funded programs meet a community need, promote life-long learning, show innovative use of technology and benefit new or underserved populations. When a program is decided upon the steps require: a fiscal agent documenting each partners assets and expectations and a budget with signposts built in to the timeline to monitor progress. A tool, called “plan it, for measuring the impact in the community is available from www.nationaloutreach.org.Obviously, this is a quick synopsis, but I would be happy to discuss in greater detail, any programs you might be considering. Webcasts from January to May will be available at http://www.partnershipforlearners.org so you can learn more.
