MEMBER LIBRARY WEEKLY BULLETIN

No. 05-34                                                                                                                      OCTOBER 7, 2005

The following book with no property stamp arrived without a library key on the process slip:

“The rover” by Mel Odom
“Toes are to tickle’ by Shen Roddie

I have yet to hear from last week’s request concerning other titles:

“Let sleeping dogs lie” by John R. Erickson
“Secret laundry monster files” by John R. Erickson
“Canyon quest” by Jim Ware
“Henry and Beezus” by Beverly Cleary
“The mouse and the motorcycle” by Beverly Cleary
“Dr. Ackerman’s book of boxers” by Lowel Ackerman

Advice for library directors that depend upon untrained staff or volunteers to fill out Please process forms:

Be sure to always check the process slips before sending the items in.
Be sure to always stamp, write, emboss, etc. your library’s name on the items.

Note: I still have the title from an unknown library, “Countdown” by Iris Johansen. I have made several requests since it first arrived in May concerning ownership. It will now be offered for free to any library that wants it at the next system meeting.

Please contact me if these titles are recognized.

I will be out of the office from Monday, Oct. 10 through Friday, Oct. 14. If you need barcodes, contact Margaret Rosen:

Advocate for your youth programs & use those leftover summer reading supplies!

Kim McMann, one of UHLS's top notch youth services librarians from Troy, had a very clever idea involving using leftover SRP bookmarks. She printed on the back the statistics of the summer - material circulated, new library cards, program attendance, tour attendance, new items added - and at the end, this: "The Young People's Services Department is staffed by one full time and two part-time employees." Kim has given them out to the Board, the Friends, the other staff, the volunteers, and the public.

Now that's politically astute! Feel free to pass on.

I have scheduled a Polaris upgrade to the latest build on Thursday morning October 13th.  This build has 80 fixes or enhancements that span all of the modules.  Polaris will start the upgrade at 8:30am.  It should only take a couple of hours but let's plan on it lasting until 12 noon.  If they finish sooner, I'll let you know so you can start using it.  The Off-line circulation module is available if you want to use it.

Here are some of the fixes in this build:

1-Fixed various issues related to holds processing and transit slips that are created when an item is checked in and held while the request itself is unclaimed.

2-The scroll bar will be visible in the label manager when the screen resolution is 800x600.

3-Added a new message for offline upload - if an item is already held for an unclaimed request and is now held for an active request, a message displays saying the item was held for the old patron and is now held for the new patron.

4-Added a report that will show hourly circ by collection within the transacting library.

5-PowerPAC fixed so that it will not consume large amounts of memory and related resources for an extended period of time.
