Youth Services

Are you signed up for FLLS-Y, the Finger Lakes list serve for all the latest information on youth services, including grants, awards, advocacy efforts and book/author/movie news?  The list serve is designed for you to share your successes, ask for help from your colleagues, and stay informed.  A storytime suggestion and brief YA book note appear once a month.  If you would like your name added to the list, simply reply to this message.

Some of you have asked what an Ellison Die Cut machine is, and it is a timesaver for cutting out multiple designs without the use of scissors.  A roller presses over a raised die which cuts through multiple layers at any one time.  The beginner set includes dies for basic shapes, stars for example, and dies exist for most summer reading theme images.  Next year, for example, for books: a treasure; look for a treasure chest, pirate, shovel and of course, books.  A sample bookmark will be sent in the delivery as soon as possible.

·     ROBERT McLAUGHLIN, Cataloging Services

Please be advised that non-book materials such as videos and sound recordings recently sent in to FLLS will experience a delay in processing. Here in Cataloging Services, we are sorting out Polaris migration problems as well as testing new procedures such as the Quick bib templates. When these issues are resolved, we then have to deal with a backlog of materials and cards/forms sent in prior to the migration. However, be assured that books (and cards/forms related to books) will still continue to be processed as they come in -- they continue to have a priority in the processing line.

If you have any questions, please contact me.
