Checking Videos
A Reminder for all Library Directors:
 
Please be sure that all staff who handle FLLS videos at the circ desk know to report any damage to the films as soon as it is noticed.

The sooner we receive the film the better chance that we can get it back to you if it is repairable, or we can send a replacement film if it is not able to be repaired.  

So, when a film is returned damaged:
1.  Do not change the status of the film.  
 2. Put a note on it explaining what is wrong with the film and send it back to FLLS to the attention of Malia.  Also, indicate the due date of the collection it is from.

We appreciate your help with this.  If you have any questions at all, feel free to call either me (ext. 26) or Malia (ext. 24).

Books on Tape/ Books on CD
Another Reminder:

If you find that a tape or CD is missing from a BOT or BOCD, please send it back to FLLS immediately, with a note as to what is wrong with it attached to it.  Send it to the attention of Marisa. 
 
Also, a set of procedures for deposit collections of Books on Tape and Books on CD will be coming to you soon.  Library Directors, please share these procedures with all of your staff.

Judy Barkee brought a program called ChoiceMail to my attention this week.
ChoiceMail is an email filter than people can use to cut down on the unwanted email they receive.  ChoiceMail allows the user to create a “whitelist” of email addresses that they want to accept email from but ChoiceMail will also send out registration requests to email senders not on the whitelist.  Judy received one of these requests this week.

The email from ChoiceMail will ask you to click a link to a web site where you can provide your name, email address and reason for contacting the ChoiceMail user.  The request will be sent to the user and they will decide if they will allow your email through. 

Judy received the ChoiceMail registration request because a Dynix mail was sent out to one of her patrons that is using it.  If you receive an email from ChoiceMail asking you for information it appears to be legitimate and you can follow the link and fill in the information.  You also have the option to ignore the email and just put a note in the patron’s record so the next time they are in the library you can ask them to add your email to their ChoiceMail whitelist.
