The “Train the Trainer” Workshop is less then 3 weeks away!
The “Train the Trainer” Workshop is being held Tuesday, June 22nd and Wednesday June 23rd in the Borg Warner Room of the Tompkins County Public Library from 9-12 Noon each day…and I am still waiting to hear from several library directors confirming their attendance or a staff member’s attendance!
Please keep in mind that when FLLS migrates to new library automation software, the director of each library will be responsible for training the rest of their staff in the functionality of the new ILS software. FLLS staff will not be able to come to each library to train the new library automation software so it is critical that you learn the skills necessary to train your staff.
Topics covered will be:
· how to build retention
· identifying 3 styles of learning
· identifying how much practice is needed to learn a skill
· pacing methods to avoid boredom
· using basic questions to promote understanding
· dealing with problem learner situations
· effective job aids to extend learning
· how to correct errors and give "constructive criticism
· how to coach learners oneonone.I will be calling the libraries who have not responded in the next week. If you have signed up already – that’s great! If not, you will be hearing from me!
You can register by calling me @ ext. 36 or e-mail me at jaguirre@flls.org

Lately I’ve received several questions regarding the proper way to send paperwork with “Transit Hold” items (items sent to fill holds at other libraries), so here is what we ask:
Each item should have a Blue Transit Hold Slip and a white receipt printout with them. These should not be stapled or taped together – just placed inside the item - with the blue slip sticking out over the top edge, so that the requesting library code is clearly visible. It is helpful to us if you highlight the library code on the white receipt printout, but please use a light color (such as yellow) that is easy to read through (some of the dark pink or green highlighters are difficult to read through.) And please be sure to change the printer ribbons as needed, when the print starts to get too light to read easily. Thank you!

Trustee Workshop Postponed
We have discovered that June is not the best time of the year for a weekend workshop! Due to low registration, we have decided to cancel the Trustee Workshop that was scheduled for this Saturday, June 5th. We are rescheduling it for Saturday, September 18th and will be sending out a new mailing with all pertinent information as well as registration form very soon.
Keep an eye out for it!
