The following request for a periodical bib record on Dynix came in, but the library code was not on the request. “Mary Englebreit’s home cooking.”

Will the owner please contact me?

The “Train the Trainer” Workshop is coming up soon!

The “Train the Trainer” Workshop is  being held Tuesday, June 22nd and Wednesday June 23rd in the Borg Warner Room of the Tompkins County Public Library from 9-12 Noon each day…and I am still waiting to hear from several library directors confirming their attendance or a staff member’s attendance!

This is a great opportunity to learn how to effectively train your staff new technologies and services as well as enhancing any training you provide to your patrons. Please keep in mind that when FLLS migrates to new library automation software, the director of each library will be responsible for training the rest of their staff in the functionality of the new ILS software.  FLLS staff will not be able to come to each library to train the new library automation software so it is critical that you learn the skills necessary to train your staff.  If you are uncomfortable training or lack the confidence and tools needed to train effectively, this is the workshop for you!

This workshop is a core part of the FLLS training program for 2004 and 2005 and ties in directly with next year’s ILS migration plan. Every library needs to be represented! If a director cannot attend, send your second in command…if they cannot come, send a staff member or trustee who would be willing to do training down the road.

FLLS has gone to considerable expense to bring in one of the foremost experts on the topic. Mr. Robert Lackie, 2004 New Jersey Librarian of the year and recipient of the 2004 Rider University Award for Distinguished Teaching is an expert in the field.  I have attended his “Train the Trainer” workshop – he had a great sense of humor and kept my interest up through a full day of training (we didn’t have the option of two days of training).

If you have yet to sign up for this class, I need to hear from you as soon as possible.  You can register by calling me @ ext. 36 or e-mail me at jaguirre@flls.org  Deadline for registration is June 11, 2004.
