·KATHY PARKHURST, ILL/Reference Coordinator
News from Kathy Parkhurst, concerning the NOVEL databases, provided by the New York State Library:
We’ve received notification of two important developments regarding the NOVEL databases:
1. “Full text access to the New York Times is now available back to January 1, 2000 for NOVEL database users, via the Gale InfoTrac Custom Newspaper database. Coverage was previously limited to a one-year backfile. The January 1, 2000 date will remain constant, so the backfile will continue to grow.”
2. The New York State Library has renewed contracts with the Gale Reference Group for continued access in 2004, to the Health Reference Center-Academic database and the Business & Company Resources Center database.
If you have any questions regarding these databases, contact Kathy Parkhurst at FLLS, or contact the NOVEL Helpdesk via e-mail or phone at: <nyslnovel@mail.nysed.gov> or (877) 277-0250 M-F, 9:00-4:00.

The FLLS Annual Trustee Workshop
This year's trustee workshop will be Saturday, June 5th from 9 am - noon at the Ramada Inn in Ithaca.
Mr. Ronald Barrows of the Barrows Group will be presenting this year’s Trustee Workshop on fundraising for libraries. He will address a variety of strategies and techniques for raising financial support that could increase income to your library. His presentation will include practical applications of these strategies and techniques, as well as a question & answer period which will allow you to discuss real challenges facing your own library.
We have just mailed out the brochures with registration form today! Everyone should be getting them soon. If you discover that one of your trustees has not received it, please contact me.
Thanks!
REMINDER:
The deadline for submitting your Permanent Loan Comedy Video forms is this coming Monday, May 10th. Please fill out your form and submit it online as soon as possible, if you are interested in any of the films. If you submit after the deadline, we will be unable to accept your selections. ·DIANA McFARLAND, Youth Services CoordinatorMay System Meeting: “Working with Teens & Making it Work,” on Thursday, May 27th .
We are bringing Linda w. Braun, another national speaker on library services to young adults, thanks to funding from the Friends of the Tompkins County Library. This will be a hands-on workshop, dedicated to creating great library services for teens in your library.
“We want to provide good YA services, but the teens just don’t come in.” – This workshop is for you!
“All they want to do is use the computers.” – This workshop is for you!
“We have some good stuff going on with teens at the library. If we connected more with the schools, it would be better.” – This workshop is for you!
In short, this workshop is for you!
Like the Patrick Jones (2002) and Walter Minkel (2003) workshops were, this meeting is open to all librarians in Tompkins, Cortland, Cayuga, Seneca, and Tioga Counties. School librarians from the area have been invited! It’s a great opportunity to network with your school counterparts.
