Just a reminder:

Last November, each member library was sent a printout of outstanding fast adds on Dynix that were more than two months old. Libraries were given the date of June 30, 2004 to move holdings from these fast adds to permanent records. You now have four more months to complete the project. Those libraries that decide not to proceed with the project, or determine that it is not possible to meet the deadline, will have any remaining fast adds deleted from Dynix by Headquarters. Any future circulation of the items represented on Dynix by these deleted fast adds will be possible only by the creation of a new fast add that will be subsequently deleted once more from Dynix after two months.

If you have any questions concerning this project, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Libri Foundation Book Grants

The Libri Foundation is currently accepting applications for its 2004 BOOKS FOR CHILDREN grants.

The Libri Foundation is a nationwide non-profit organization which donates new, quality, hardcover children's books to small, rural public libraries throughout the United States.  Since October 1990, the Foundation has donated over $2,000,000 worth of new children's books to more than 1,600 libraries in 48 states.

In order to encourage and reward local support of libraries, The Libri Foundation will match any amount of money raised by a library's local sponsor(s) from $50 to $350 on a 2-to-1 ratio.  Thus, a library can receive up to $1,050 worth of new, quality, hardcover children's books.  After a library receives a grant, local sponsors (such as formal or informal Friends groups, civic or social organizations, local businesses, etc.) have four months or longer if necessary, to raise their matching funds.

Libraries are qualified on an individual basis.  In general, libraries should serve a population under 10,000 (usually under 5,000), be in a rural area, have a limited operating budget, and an active children's department.

Previous BOOKS FOR CHILDREN grant recipients are eligible to apply for a second grant three years after the receipt of their first grant.  Libraries that do not fulfill all the grant requirements, including the final report, are not eligible for a second grant.

The application (postmark) deadlines are:  March 15th, July 15th, and December 15th.  Grants will be awarded at the end of April, August, and January.
