“Best of Reference is an annual list of books, websites, and electronic resources selected by a committee of librarians for their usefulness in local branch reference collections. Selection criteria include value and appropriateness for branch collections, organization of material, style of presentation, and authority of authors and editors.”
They also have reading lists of Best Poetry, and Books to Remember, as well as subject-guide lists celebrating holidays and special events.

Why: Reason #2 -- The Law: There's more than one!
-The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA, 1990): requires public facilities and public services to be accessible. This includes libraries. Equity of access to information is, or should be, at least as important as ramps, entry doors and bathrooms.
-Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973: no person with a disability shall "be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity of a public entity." This too applies to libraries.
-Section 508, as revised in 1998: requires federal agencies and certain federally funded services to make all of their communication and technology accessible.
Does YOUR library supply equity of access to information for people with disabilities? Learn more about it at the System meeting on February 26th!
- ROBERT McLAUGHLIN, Cataloging Services
It is important that all member libraries use the double number barcode sets for new materials. Affix the barcode portion to the item, and attach the duplicate number portion to the vendor card or Dynix form. DO NOT hand write the number on the card of form. There have been too many instances of hand written numbers being transcribed incorrectly. If you are using the duplicate number portion for some other use (for example, a shelf list – which you really don’t need to maintain since Dynix is a reliable alternative and backup), please hand write that information and use the duplicate portion for its intended purpose.
PLEASE remember to include your library key on EVERY vendor card and Dynix form you submit. Determining the owner of a card or form without a library key is time consuming. I have to search for a related barcode that is in the same range of the barcode on the card or form that was received without a library key.
Thanks for your cooperation and my better mental health. If you have ANY questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

This plan must cover the period 2004 – 2007. Please note this does not apply to libraries seeking E-Rate funds only for basic local and/or telephone service. Guidelines and information about Technology Plan requirements are available from FLLS.
