Interlibrary Loan Lending Policies

It’s not too late for a new year’s resolution to loan more materials to other libraries through interlibrary loan!

More and more libraries are deciding to loan their books-on-tape (or CDs) and videocassettes (or DVDs) to other libraries.

Is your library one of them?  Attached is a chart of member libraries’ current lending policies.

Contact Kathy Parkhurst if your library’s policies are different than represented on this chart.

Video and sound fast adds on Dynix:

Remember to always include the following to all video and sound recording fast adds you create:

[sound recording]

Because fast adds provide such limited information, adding these bracketed phrases allows patrons to easily distinguish the video or sound recording items from books of the same name. You may add “DVD” or “VHS” if you wish to make a further distinction. For example:

Book: Pirates of the Caribbean

Video: Pirates of the Caribbean [videorecording DVD]

Once your fast add holding  is transferred to a permanent bib record, the video or sound recording title will show up like this:

Pirates of the Caribbean [videorecording] : the curse of the Black Pearl. The distinction “DVD” is no longer included, but on your public access catalog, there should be a graphic icon displayed that indicates the item is a DVD.

If you have ANY questions about video and sound recording cataloging, please do not hesitate to contact me.

The Dynix upgrade I ran on Wednesday morning was short and painless.  It fixed several behind the scenes issues, some we use and some we don't.  The **Resolved** block for the Pre-overdue email notices won't show up in the patrons current blocks anymore.  It will still be generated but it will go directly into the PURF history.  Thanks to all of you for your patience on Wednesday.

The deployment of the Symantec Antivirus software is on schedule and under way.  As a reminder to anyone that has expired antivirus subscriptions, call us right away so we can help you update your software.  Everybody else will be contacted by Eric.  He will send out an email notifying you that the software is available from our Web site and how to get it.  We will be working from county to county so we don't overload our Internet connection with downloads.  The software download will work for any of your computers that have Windows 98, Windows 2000 or Windows XP.  If you still have Windows 95, Windows NT workstation or server, you will need to contact us so we can send out a CD with the Legacy Antivirus software on it.

If you still have a Gates Foundation computer that has not been upgraded from Windows NT to Windows 2000 (workstation or server), you need to get them upgraded right away.
