Giant Step Award

Gale and School Library Journal give this award annually to recognize outstanding school and public libraries that have created innovative programs that have an impact on children and young adults. A total of $10,000 in cash prizes will be awarded. The deadline for nominations is October 31, 2003. Dollar General Community Grants

“Dollar General’s community grants program provides support for non-profit organizations committed to the advancement of literacy, drop out prevention and character education.” Application deadline is December 5, 2003. New Patrons

Give a library card holder to a new young patron when he/she signs up for a library card, or give them to a class during a library visit! We have some library cards left from the summer. They aren’t dated, and can make great give-aways for the fall. Please let me know if you’d like some!

       

I will be on vacation (Maine-bound!) from September 26 to October 14.  I will be back in the office on the 14th. 

 

FLLS has extra copies of Antigone, by Sophocles available, if any libraries would like a free copy (or two) to add to their library collection. This book is the “Ithaca Reads” selection and all libraries within Tompkins County have already received copies. Contact Kathy Parkhurst if you would like to add a copy to your library.
