MARISA IACOBUCCI, Adult Services Coordinator
Earlier this week, I sent out an Adult Program Information Form to be filled out by member librarians. Please take a few minutes and pass on any adult programs that have worked for you. Thanks!
Update on the Parking Shuttle service offered by the City of Ithaca to address the reduced number of parking places in the lot adjacent to the Tompkins County Public Library:
Because of the limited use of the park and ride shuttle, the city will discontinue its operation effective 7:00pm on August 15, 2003. The park and ride program will be re-visited when construction begins.
Chalk up another one for Bill:
"I am excited about what's happening in my hometown and in libraries across the country. But I worry about whether our society will support public libraries so they can sustain this critical community service. In my view, investing in public libraries is an investment in the nation's future."
Microsoft's Bill Gates in a guest column, Seattle Times, February 21.
I have sent out an "adult programming" information questionnaire to all member libraries this week. Please take a few minutes and fill out any adult programming information you have. I appreciate your input! Thanks.
CAROL HENDRIX, Administration

ERIC FRANKS, Computer Network Specialist
On Monday of this week a new virus started making its way across the Internet. Known as the W32.Blaster worm by Norton it can infect computers running Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
An email was sent on Tuesday telling you to do a virus definition update to help block this virus. That applies to all the computers in your library. I would also like to add that there is a security patch from Microsoft for computers running Windows 2000 or XP.
Please take this opportunity to run the Windows Update feature on all of your Windows 2000 and/or XP computers, choosing to install all items listed in the “Critical Updates and Service Packs” section. If you have questions on how to do the updates, please call us or refer to the Spring 2003 FLLS Newsletter where I wrote a detailed article on how to run the Windows Update.
Two notes on this; Only Windows 2000 and XP are affected by this virus. Please do not run the Windows Update function on Windows 95 or Windows 98 computers.
The virus is known by several names depending on which anti-virus company you are working with. Symantec’s Norton AntiVirus calls it W32.Blaster while it is referred to as W32.Lovsan by McAfee or WORM_MSBLAST.A by Trend Micro (makers of PC-cillin).
