Summer Reading FYI
Just wanted to let you know about something thats coming for this summer from the State. I dont have details yet of how these will be distributed, etc. (The following is from the Summer Reading Website - http://www.summerreadingnys.org/museums/default.htm)Museum Connections
In 2003 the New York State Public Library Summer Reading Program for children and teens will partner with the New York State Division of Tourism to provide opportunities for children and their families to visit art museums and learn about the arts and artists of New York State. Because this year's summer reading theme is Picture This...Imagine That...READ!, public libraries are offering many programs centered on the visual and performing arts. Fostering partnerships between local art museums and public libraries presents these organizations with wonderful opportunities to work together in their communities and hopefully, form lasting relationships.Any child who enrolls in the local library's 2003 summer reading program will receive a Culture Card, which provides special offers and discounts to participating museums. When children and their families visit three participating museums, they are eligible to enter into a weekend getaway sweepstakes for four people (parents must enter for their children). More information on the Culture Card will be forthcoming, or contact Anne Simon at 518-486-2194; e-mail: asimon@mail.nysed.gov or Patricia Driscoll, NYS Tourism, 518/292-5377; e-mail: PDriscoll@empire.state.ny.us.

I am instituting a schedule of when Itypes and Collection Codes will be added to the Dynix ILS (Integrated Library System) since it takes approximately 14 hours to update all of the monthly reports after adding a new Itype or Collection Code.
The scheduled cutoff dates will be quarterly with the changes/additions to be implemented at the beginning of the month following the cutoff date.
The cutoff dates will be on the last day of the following months: Dec., Mar., June and Sept.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding.
MELANIE HEMINGWAY, Outreach Services:
Think you dont have time to do Outreach? Think again: NEARLY EVERYTHING YOU DO is Outreach! Give yourself a pat on the back!
Think your service to the older population is service to a stereotyped group of Senior Citizens rocking their chairs in a corner? Think again: EVERYONE YOU SERVE has one thing in common were ALL getting older every day. When you provide library service to the AGED, youre bringing library service to people who once were young and have probably used libraries for years. You can make ALL their library days the best times of their lives.
Remember.......Inside every older person is a younger person wondering what the heck happened!
