FLLS will be closed on Friday, April 18th, and there will be no deliveries on that day.
However, we are planning on providing deliveries to the Friday libraries on Thursday, April 17th.
Our regular driver, Tom, will be making the usual Thursday deliveries, and our substitute driver, Don, will be providing deliveries to the Friday libraries one day early.
Friday libraries: APAL, BERK, CAN, CIN, DRY, HOM, MARA, McGR, NEVA, NEW, NIC, OWE, SPE, WAV please have your bag ready at the usual time, but on Thursday instead of Friday.
Two new databases have been added to the FLLS Electronic Resources webpage:
Reference Link contains full-text articles from over 40 newspapers, news wires and news databases, as well as citations from selected databases such as: ERIC, MEDLINE, Population Demographics, U.S. Patents(FT) and U.S. Copyrights.
Twayne's Authors Series contains in-depth introductions to the lives and works of writers, the history and influence of literary movements and the development of literary genres. It covers US Authors, English Authors and World Authors.
These two databases are offered through the New York State Librarys NOVEL databases (formerly EmpireLink) and they replace access to the Dialog@CARL database, which expired on March 31, 2003.
Try them out, and dont forget to also take a look at these other relatively new databases that were added last month:
NewsBank which offers cover-to-cover information from more than 450 newspapers, including 10 New York newspapers, such as: the Ithaca Journal (2002-), the Syracuse Post-Standard (1986-), and the Binghamton Press & Sun Bulletin (1999-).
CollegeSourceŽ Online which features over 23,933 College Catalogs in complete cover-to-cover, original-page format, representing 2-year, 4-year, graduate, professional and international schools.
DIANA McFARLAND, Youth Services Coordinator
*** I will be out of the office from Monday, April 13 till Tuesday, April 21.

War in Iraq - Pathfinders
The Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library offers several very good pathfinders for young people seeking information about the war in Iraq, Homeland Security, and Peace and Conflict Resolution: http://infozone.imcpl.org/kids_pathfinders.htm. Scroll down to Current Events.
The pathfinders offer book, website, and library catalog search suggestions.
Cornell Scholastic Books Giveaway
If you were interested in receiving picture books from this giveaway, but are not able to get to Cornell on May 3rd to pick them up, you may arrange to pick them up from FLLS headquarters instead. So, if you are interested in this offer, would like more information, etc. (and have not contacted me already) please let me know ASAP.

Gates Foundation Upgrade Update
Julian Thomas in Ovid has finished upgrading both of his Gates computers and found that it took just about 5 hours per computer. So, the 8 hour per computer time that Ive mentioned may be the outside time.
Also a reminder that the deadline for free technical support from the Gates Foundation is May 17th. Please plan to do your upgrades by that date as you will be able to take advantage of the support for questions and/or problems you may run into.
Gates Foundation has continued to update their web page with information on the upgrades. You can link directly to the New York page by using this link: http://www.pacomputing.org/Upgrades/NY-COUpgrade.aspx. The latest updates have included information on the upgrading of the Content Server. I have not yet finished our information for saving data files for those of you using the Content Server as an office computer. I promise to have that up on our web site within the next several days.
