Changes have been made to the descriptions for the new, non-book Dynix collection codes that were introduced just recently. Please note that FLLS has been removed from the description. These changes are the result of a determination that enough time has passed for Dynix users to become accustomed to the new collection codes. Note: The changes do not affect the codes themselves only the descriptions you see when you access Dynix holding records.

April is National Poetry Month
Yeah, its April, and spring, and what goes better with spring than poetry! How are you celebrating in your library? Got magnetic poetry up on the shelves? Having a poetry slam? Giving out poems when patrons check out books? Please share your ideas with us!
In honor of the month, and the weather (since it has insisted on snowing again), here is Shel Silversteins Snowball.
I made myself a snowball
As perfect as could be.
I thought I'd keep it as a pet
And let it sleep with me.
I made it some pajamas
And a pillow for its head.
Then last night it ran away,
But first - it wet the bed.Cornell Library Scholastic Books Project
Im a little late in forwarding this to you, but this looks like it may be an interesting opportunity. I dont have any more specific details as of this writing, or know how many or what type books will be available. If you are interested, please contact Beth Fontana at 607-255-3322 or eaf3@cornell.edu.
Here is her message:
I am writing to tell you about an exciting free book distribution project, and to ask you to pass this information on to public library directors in the region you serve.
Thanks to the generosity of a Cornell alumnus and Library Advisory Council member, later this spring Cornell will receive approximately 10,000 remaindered books from Scholastic Books. We anticipate the titles will range from simple digest paperbacks to hardcover "picture" books. The books will be shipped to Cornell Library for re-distribution to school and public libraries, as well as to literacy and other community organizations.
The books will be shipped to Cornell from Scholastic's warehouse in Missouri, and we probably will not have a list of titles from Scholastic until later this spring. In general, our plan is to have student volunteers sort and package the books for recipient organizations. We'll sort the books based on the age of children served --anticipating that most pre-K titles will go to literacy and community groups, and to those public libraries that wish to receive them.
We have made preliminary plans to hold a distribution event on the Cornell campus on Saturday, May 3rd -- at which participating libraries and organizations will pick up boxes of books.
Librarians who would like to receive gift books from Scholastic should reply directly to me via email or call me at 607-255-3322, so that we can compile a list of all participating libraries.
Best regards,
Beth Fontana

Hill Brothers Concert Opportunity
Ive just received this e-mail and wanted to pass it on to you. I dont know what it would cost, but it might be worth checking into. Please contact Dave Ruch (contact info below) if youd like more information.
We have a great discount we can offer you.....as is sometimes the case, we have found ourselves with an open afternoon in our April travel schedule
that we would love to fill in, possibly with a concert or workshop for Finger Lakes Library System!
If you are in any of the following counties, we can probably make it to your location for an afternoon performance on Monday, April 14: Cayuga County, Cortland County, Tioga County, Tompkins County.
Choose from any of our nine shows including Character Education (Respect & Responsibility), Celebrate Reading, Multiculturalism/Diversity,
American Folk & Bluegrass Music and more, and save some $$ at the same time. A complete description of each show is available on the "Programs" page at www.hillbrothers.net
If you think you can accommodate our schedule and would like to book a program, give us a call or email as soon as possible and we'll see if we can work something out!

Im sad to report that author Paul Zindel died on March 27. He was a staple of young adult authorship, and helped define the genre as it has emerged over the last thirty years. Among his noted books is The Pigman. He will be sadly missed. Please visit http://www.smartwriters.com/index.2ts?page=swjapril2003 for more information about Paul Zindel and moving online eulogies.
