NYLA’s PLA Conference:

Tuesday, May 6 is NYLA Public Libraries Section’s Biennial Spring Conference. This year, it’s at the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel. ALA President Mitch Freedman will be the keynote speaker addressing the registrants on the important issues of pay equity for library staff and the implications of the USA Patriot Act for libraries.

The theme of the conference is WORKING SMARTER @ YOUR LIBRARY. Stay tuned for further details! (From Tom Lawrence on NYLINE)

Library Advocacy:
The handouts “Libraries Need Your Help” and “How to Communicate Effectively with Your Legislators” (from the Advocacy Packet we spoke of at the System Meeting (and that you will be receiving via the delivery)) are available in large print editions. Please let me know if you’d like them.

Subject: Re: status of Dialog @ Carl

The current statewide contract for Dialog@CARL online database offered through the New York State Library's NOVEL Databases (formerly EmpireLink) program will expire March 31, 2003. This product will cease to exist and, therefore, will no longer be available to the NOVEL Databases program from any vendor.

NOVEL committees are researching other online products that include the most-used Dialog@CARL databases. Selection of a replacement collection of databases for Dialog@CARL is dependent on available funding.

The NOVEL program will use the new NOVEL-DB list to keep member libraries up to date on the selection process and new contract awards.

Second notice: At the beginning of the month I enquired in the Weekly Bulletin about a request I received for vendor reimbursement that was sent to Headquarters without a library key to let me know which library sent it in. The vendor listed on the request is Brodart and the total amount requested was for $171.00. If you recognize this item, please contact me – your reimbursement will not be processed unless I hear from you.
