- ROBERT McLAUGHLIN, Cataloging Services
A request for vendor reimbursement came in last Fridays delivery to Headquarters without a library key to let me know which library sent in the request. The vendor listed on the request is Brodart and the total amount requested was for $171.00. If you recognize this item, please contact me your reimbursement will not be processed unless I hear from you.
If you are not already aware, Cataloging Services is currently seeking a replacement for the cataloging position formerly held by Susan Milligan who retired as of the first of the year. Until this position is filled, we are attempting to process requests for cataloging with the remaining department staff including myself. I have now determined that book materials, vendor cards, sound recordings, and Dynix request forms have priority for cataloging over certain video recordings. As a result, I am asking you not send in gift video recordings until further notice. Normally, I would just put gift video recordings aside, but I simply do not have the shelf space. I will process the current backlog of about 100 gift items, and if the staffing situation improves I will notify you that you can resume sending gifts in for cataloging. However, please note that I will catalog video recordings that are purchased especially new releases in the normal manner. Thanks for your cooperation. If you have any questions, please contact me.

The next FALCON meeting is on Thursday Feb. 20, 2003 at 9:00AM at TCPL in the Borg Warner Room. We will be voting on some issues that involve all the Dynix libraries, so please plan on attending. According to the Advisory Council Bylaws Article III Section E, "Each voting institutions director will be the voting representative on the Advisory Council. Alternate delegates may be designated by the library director". If your library is sending a representative other than the library director, please email me back indicating the name of your alternate delegate at rhelwig@flls.org. Remember, you must be present to cast a vote according to the Bylaws of the FALCON organization. An agenda of the meeting will be sent out next week.

Harry Potter Gains Vaticans Approval
Harry Potter gained the Vatican's seal of approval on Monday when an official said the books helped children to see the difference between good and evil.
I don't think there's anyone in this room who grew up without fairies, magic and angels in their imaginary world, Father Peter Fleetwood told reporters.
(From the BBC)Summer Reading
The manuals have arrived and are being sent out as you read this! (In the past, we have put them in 3-ring binders, but the budget is tighter this year, so they are coming to you unfettered in cellophane.) I have received a way cool summer reading poster for each library! Please keep this in mind as you order posters from Janway You have one already, do you want to buy another? If you have already sent your order in, and would like to change the number of posters ordered, please let me know ASAP. Thanks!
The posters will be available for pick up at the February and March system meetings. Please let me know if youd like me to send your poster via the delivery. We have no poster tubes, so they may be a bit crinkled if you opt for system delivery.
If youd like to be a part of the coordinated order to Janway and havent ordered yet, you have one week left! Orders are due to FLLS Thursday, Feb. 13.
