MARISA IACOBUCCI, Adult Services Coordinator
Recently, you will have received the South Central Regional Library Council's Spring 2003 Education & Training Catalog. There was one workshop that caught my eye and that I would like to encourage you to attend. It was the "Time Management, Planning and Prioritization for Small Libraries" workshop to take place on May 9, 2003 at the Holiday Inn. It promises "techniques for using planning and prioritization as well as ways to control and limit interruptions." It does mention that it is especially helpful for "those working in a small medical or hospital library", but I called SCRLC and asked and they assured me it would be appropriate for all small libraries. The cost is $20 for members and $30 for non-members; it is from 9 am - 4 pm and includes lunch.
I sent out an e-mail to everyone last Friday concerning the Annual Reports, but wanted to reprint the list on Annual Report items from the message here in the Bulletin:
- The software, Bibliostat Collect, is not yet up an running, but as soon as it becomes available, I will let you know BY E-MAIL. This leads me to #2
- Please check your e-mail daily if possible, or as often as possible as this will be how I will communicate any changes or news about the report. If you did not receive an e-mail last Friday (1/10) concerning the Annual Report, please give me a call to make sure I have your correct e-mail address.
- While waiting for the site to be ready, I strongly encourage you to print off the report and fill in as much as possible. This will also prepare you for the Annual Report Workshop on January 23rd, when Maria Hazapis will be here to answer your questions. (flyer on the shelves ready for delivery as I type this )
- The deadline for the report will be Friday, February 14th. I am feeling very optimistic about this year and believe that the site will work well and things will go smoothly. J
- Your assigned Annual Report helper will be the same person you had last year. If you don't know who that person is, please contact me.
Take lots of deep breaths and don't worry! The report will be done and it will go just fine...
It is common knowledge that I am a dog lover. I have a dog who I love and I love dogs that I don't have. Recently, I was looking through some small press titles and found a couple that I think would be great additions to our system. I, unfortunately, cannot purchase them myself, but would like to recommend them just the same. Tompkins County Public Library has a copy of "Great Vacations for You & Your Dog, USA, 2001-2002 which is a listing of places to stay and what fun can be had near those places. Below is a list of three titles (including an updated version of the "Great Vacations" book) that are possibilities. With the exception of the title listed above, no one owns them in the System.

Diana, Carol & I recently went to a workshop on Bibliostat Connect, which is the piece of Informata that allows you to do graphs and tables of statistics comparing your library to others. It was great! And we hope to have a workshop for you all sometime down the road. In the meantime, I encourage you to check it out. Go to thelibraryplace.com and click on the Biblostat Connect part. It uses the same Login and Password as the Collect part. Also, over a year ago, I sent everyone a CD of the Bibliostat Connect you can pitch them, use them as frisbees, decorate your library with them whatever you choose, but you no longer need them.
