Baker & Taylor Chuck Healy from Baker & Taylor wants me to remind you that:
- Book/books ordered with any kind of processing are not returnable. If you wish to return a completely unprocessed book, check their website (www.btol.com) to see if the publisher of the book allows returns from B&T. In short, if B&T can not return it for credit, neither can you.
- Books are only returnable if they are damaged or the mistake is the fault of B&T. Remember that if you order a book based on an ISBN from a review; it is not the fault of B&T. But if you order a book by a certain ISBN, but receive an edition with a different ISBN, it should be returnable.
- When you order online or with the B&T Link software, remember to verify the number of copies you want before you place the order. If you accidentally order 10 copies of a book when you only needed one, it is your mistake and all 10 books are yours especially if they are processed.
- If you have a problem with B&T, you can call Nora Brophy at B&T Customer Service. The phone number is 800-775-1500.
- If you are unhappy with the quality of the books you receive (e.g. broken binding), you should not only call B&T for a replacement or refund, but you should also be a good consumer and contact the publisher and complain about the quality of the products they are selling.
- You should stay with the B&T processing profile that you now have that includes a pocket and circulation card. To get a book without them, will actually cost you a lot more especially since FLLS will only reimburse for a maximum of 70¢.
- Since Chuck now has Pennsylvania as part of his territory, and he cant come to your library for a visit very often, he has said that he would be more than happy to speak to member libraries at a future System Meeting about B&T products and services.
Book Replacement Grant A good number of member libraries seem to have overlooked the Sept. 13 deadline for returning to me their choice of Dewey Decimal ranges that they wish to weed. I will allow a short one-week extension for those who have not responded, but it is important that you do not wait until the last moment.
Please note: The instructions for choosing Dewey Decimal ranges explicitly states that you must choose five ranges. Since the payout formula is based on the total number of titles on the printout, choosing fewer than five ranges places a participating library at an advantage when compared to other member libraries that have chosen five ranges. You do not have to do any weeding in all the ranges you have chosen on your printout, but in the interest of fairness, I must ask for your cooperation with regard to this matter.
If you have any questions, please call me at x34.

flls-l@lakenet.org The FLLS-L listserve, what is it and how does it work. The flls-l listserve was setup several years ago to facilitate communication between FLLS and its members. It has the potential to be much more than just that. It is a tool that allows anyone that is signed up on the listserve to post a message to all of the other members of the listserve. If you are reading this weekly bulletin from your email or receive it in your email, then you are already a member of the flls-l listserve. If you are not receiving the weekly bulletin in your email then you need to sign up. Send an email to me at rhelwig@flls.org requesting to be added to the flls-l listserve and I will add you, please include your email address.
To send a message on the listserve, start your email program and start a new message. Address it to flls-l@lakenet.org and fill in the rest just like a regular email then send it. The message that you composed and sent will go to all of the members of the listserve and will arrive in their email box within minutes. I encourage you to use this service for most any question you have that you would like input from your colleagues and peers. The more you use the listserve the more you will benefit from it.
Dynix Server Upgrade As most of you already know, Dynix will be unavailable on October 1 & 2, 2002 for a much-needed upgrade. We will be replacing the 6 ½ year old server with a brand new one. We have tested the upgrade procedure which included copying all of the data across the network and running a conversion on it. It took 3 ½ hours to complete. We anticipate the same or better results on Oct. 1st. After the conversion we will be verifying the data for the rest of the day. On Oct. 2nd we will start uploading the PCReliance data files and processing them on Dynix. We expect all functionality to be available on the 2nd.
All of the on-line circulating libraries will need to use the PCReliance backup circulation software or the paper and pencil method. If you are unsure of how to use PCReliance, please give us a call before October 1st to go over the procedures. If you arent sure whether you have PCReliance installed on your circulation computer, click on Start then move your cursor up to Programs. When the Programs menu pops up, look for epixtech. If you see epixtech then you have PCReliance installed. We will send out more information on PCReliance over the next 2 weeks.
