1. Reminder… deadline for submission of your nominations for the System Annual Awards is September 3rd, to the attention of Karen Creenan.

2. Please look in delivery for a memo requesting member library information for the System Annual Brochure. Please note September 6th deadline.

3. FLLS Annual Meeting is October 16th at the Owego Treadway Inn & Conference Center. Mark your calendars now! Invitations will be mailed soon.

Summer Reading Calendar Update:

Yikes, I wanted to share Berkshire and Weedsport’s summer doings, too. Take note –save good ideas for next year…

Berkshire:

Just walk in and join the fun! Reading contests, games, crafts, & refreshments. For kids pre-school to grade 5; Fridays 1:00 – 3:00 July 12, 19, & 26.

Parents: Please take a minute to register your child for the new library card.

Weedsport:

July 13: Splish Splash Read Character Parade and Carnival. Lots of water games, lemonade, a Friends Bake Sale and fun. Prizes for all.

August 6: Ron Cain performing “Captain HuddiCain’s Seaside Magic Show.” The magic show promotes reading while celebrating the State’s beaches and bodies of water.

Tuesday, August 20 at 7pm at the Gazebo. Nan Hoffman presents the program “Swimming in a Sea of Books.” Songs about water and books made from those songs.

1. U.S. libraries of all types are invited to apply for a $4,000 National Library Week Grant for the best library promotion/public awareness campaign during National Library Week (April 6-12, 2003) that promotes the role librarians play in the 21st century.

The Grolier Grant is an annual $4,000 award sponsored by and administered by the ALA Public Awareness Committee to support a library’s efforts to promote National Library This year's application deadline is October 15, 2002. This is the first year that the Grolier Grant specifically will focus on the work of librarians.
