Virus Information

There are two new viruses that have been spreading lately that you should be on the lookout for.

Downloader-W aka Backdoor.Autoupder:  This virus infects by a computer browsing to a web page that is already infected.  It’s designed to allow the spread of other viruses, worms and Trojans.  Symantec has posted a removal tool for this virus at this address:  http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/backdoor.autoupder.removal.tool.html

Klez.h:  This virus comes via email as an attachment.  It can be an attachment that needs to be double-clicked or possibly one that can run on its own just by you previewing the email.  There is also a removal tool for this virus from Symantec:  http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.klez.removal.tool.html

If you haven’t done so lately, please update the virus definition files on your Gates and public access computers (as well as your CIRC and PAC computers) and run a full system scan.  If you find either of the viruses listed, use the cleaning tool to fix them.  If other virus programs are found use your antivirus application to clean them or check Symantec’s page for virus specific tools.

      Dynix New User Training:

A training session designed for new users on the Dynix System is scheduled for June 10, 2002 from 9:00AM to 11:30PM.  This is the class for your new staff, volunteers or staff needing Dynix training or just a refresher.  This is hands on training so the number of participants is limited.  We have 7 seats still available.  Marisa will be sending out a reminder early next week.
