May System Meeting:

There is still time to RSVP for the System Meeting in May! If you need to work out scheduling, have questions, are curious about it - please give me a call or drop me an e-mail. If you are planning to come, please let me know.

This is a fantastic opportunity to learn some very useful strategies about working with young adults in the library from a mentor who has years of experience and an enthusiasm for both young adults and librarians. Hope to see you there!

"Libraries are, in many ways, in their adolescence. We're developing the physical parts (computers) but we are having growing pains adjusting to the side effects of change. Like YAs, libraries are works in progress moving from one developmental stage to another. Like teens, we are caught up in discussions concerning independence, excitement, acceptance, and identity. Who are we? What are libraries? What do they do? What should they do? What do we want them to become? The answer is simple: They should connect the world of young adults with the world of information; it is what we do best. That will not, can not, and should not ever change." - Patrick Jones, Do It Right! Best Practices for Serving Young Adults in School and Public Libraries.

(We have two of Patrick Jones' books: Do It Right and Connecting Young Adults and Libraries available for borrowing from the Finger Lakes Collection.)

Summer Reading Update:
There is a small groundswell of interest in a web-based scavenger hunt and online reading logs. Sound cool? If you're
interested in getting on board with your creative energies, please let me know (dianam@flls.org, x27).

Performer Inquiry:

Have any libraries heard of or used a performer group called "Beauty and the Beast?" If so, please let me know!

POWERS LIBRARY, Moravia

FYI: The Powers Library will be closed for asbestos abatement April 29, 30, May 1, 2.
