JUST A REMINDER!!! ITS HOLIDAY TIME
FLLS will be closed:
Monday, December 24, 2001 for Christmas Eve Tuesday, December 25, 2001 for Christmas Day Monday, December 31, 2001 for New Years Eve Tuesday, January 1, 2002 for New Years DayDuring these last few days of the year, FLLS will be short staffed because many FLLS staff members will be taking well-deserved vacations. If there is an emergency or if you really need immediate help, try several different extensions.
Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar is offering a free sundae when kids read 5 books and a free Kid's Meal when they read 10. I have LOTS of "Applebee's Bookworm Club" log sheets. This sounds like a fun way to encourage reading as the weather gets colder and messier. A great time to settle in with a book, and earn some free food while you're at it. You could have a Reading Marathon at the library, encourage older children to read to younger brothers or sisters, or just distribute the Reading Logs as people check out books...lots of possibilities.
Please e-mail me (dianam@flls.org) or give me a call (x27) to participate.
Check out the Janway website for Summer Reading 2002 Splish Splash Read products: http://www.janway.com/ny2002-srp.asp We expect to have the order forms available at the January System meeting - as in the past, Finger Lakes will coordinate purchases from Janway (that way, we save on shipping).
Peggy Rathmann (Officer Buckle and Gloria; 19 Minutes till Bedtime; Good Night Gorilla) is doing the art for the Minnesota 2002 Summer Reading Program! While we can't reproduce their graphics, there are some fun posters, stickers, etc that could be neat to use in the library anytime. Products are available on the http://www.melsa.lib.mn.us/srp2002/SRPproducts.htm#Summer.
And finally, Senator Libous' Books Program website is up - Young Tioga County patrons may participate in his Reading Incentive Program online. The site also features Holiday Book Selections and a word find.
Reference Database Update the Novelist database is temporarily unavailable. Several of you have noticed, and notified us, that you were not able to access the Novelist database. We are aware of this and EBSCO is currently working on correcting the problem of authenticating users. All FLLS Library card numbers, except for TCPL patrons, are blocked from access. We will notify you by e-mail and the Member Library Bulletin when this has been fixed.
