REX HELWIG, Computer Network Services Manager

IMPORTANT….
As a result of the W32.NIMDA.A virus, the Java WebPac server was shutdown
for two days. It has been patched, scanned and restored. The W32.NIMDA.A
is a very nasty virus which can infect your computer by email, shared drives
or by viewing a Web page. If you don’t have a virus scan or an update
subscription to one, you need to get one right away. The granted Gates
Foundation computers have Norton Antivirus on them but you may need to pay
for the subscription to the update service. You will need to manually
update your virus definition files manually as soon as possible since new
definition files were released on 9/18/2001.
We are sending out in today’s delivery a diskette that has a utility to
cleanup the virus on your computers. It should be run on every computer in
your library. Because of the urgency of this action and the time limits we
have, the instructions on how to run this utility will be coming to you via
fax on Friday morning.
