INTERNET FILTERS: There is still apparently some confusion concerning Internet filters, CIPA, the Children’s Internet Protection Act, and requirements for public libraries. Please watch your delivery for updated information.
E-RATE REMINDER: Libraries applying for E-rate discounts should be working on Form 486 for FY4.

The maximum amount that FLLS will reimburse for full vendor processing is 70¢ per item. While Baker & Taylor continues to charge the same for processing (a maximum of 70¢), Brodart has increased the processing charge from 69¢ to 74¢. As a result of the Brodart increase, it will now be necessary for member libraries to compute the reimbursement for Brodart charges rather than enter the total amount for processing from the invoice, as is the case for Baker & Taylor. To compute the reimbursement, simply multiply the number of items by .70 and enter this total on the form in the appropriate space.

Note 1: Please submit reimbursement requests on a quarterly, semi-annual, or annual basis. There is quite a lot of time and paperwork involved to cut checks for small amounts of money. If there is a reason why you might need reimbursement on a more frequent basis, please contact me.

Note 2: If you are a Brodart P-1 user or a Brodart P-1 user that has moved to Dynix, please contact your book vendor to let them know that MARC records are no longer needed. The added expense of paying for MARC records that are no longer used can be fairly high.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. If there are any questions, please contact me.

Dolores Fleckenstein, Director of the Powers Library in Moravia, publicly announced plans at the end of July that the library will be expanding! Plans have been in the works for some time, but now everything is final, with construction slated to begin in November and to be completed in May. Dolores passed on a wonderful article about the expansion from the Auburn Citizen (excellent PR!!) that detailed all the reasons for expanding (no room to move) as well as the cost of the project and some design features. Congratulation Dolores, staff, and Board at Powers!
Reminder: I sent out a Resource Sharing Questionnaire not too long ago with a due date of Friday, August 24. If you have not filled out the questionnaire yet, please do so regardless of the due date. It is very important for me to have a questionnaire from everyone in order to be complete. Thanks!

Hope everything is going well as Summer Reading draws to a close...It's Summer Reading Statistics time. Please take a moment or two to fill it out the Survey. The State needs the info. The more feedback, the better the program will be next year. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

REX HELWIG, Computer Network Services & KAREN CREENAN, Executive Director

Welcome to Eric Franks, Computer Services Specialist. Eric comes to us with a Bachelors Degree in Computer Information Systems from the State University of New York Institute of Technology at Utica/Rome. He has worked in a variety of positions providing computer support, and he built his own home computer system. He is already jumping in with both feet so I’m sure you will be talking to him soon. His extension is 35 and his email address is <efranks@flls.org>
If you need to call the Computer Network Services department for help, please use extension 37. This extension number will ring on all four department phones and hopefully will connect you with one us with less extension hopping.
