This scholarship from the Public Library Section of NYLA provides full NYLA conference registration and $500 toward conference expenses. To apply, indicate why you wish to attend the conference, how this will influence your personal and professional goals, and how you intend to integrate and share the experience in your work environment. Membership in NYLA or PLS not required. Applicants may be working librarians or currently in library school. Applications due by July 21, 2001 to Demita Gerber, Greenburgh Public Library, 300 Tarrytown Rd., Elmsford, NY 10523; gerber@westchesterlibraries.org; 914-993-1608.
Library Good Humor Award (I definitely think this suits many of you out there!) This annual award recognizes librarians who use humor and good cheer to pick up everyone in the library on a regular basis even when times are toughest. Send a short essay, with appropriate supporting documentation, to Will Manley, P.O. Box 23665, Tempe, AZ 85285-3665. The deadline for submission is September 1, 2001.
Moshier/Asa Wynkoop Award (Another award that could be suited to all those hard-working librarians in our system.) This $1,000 award honors a library director who has given outstanding service to a community of 7,500 or less. A professional degree is not a requirement. Nominations may be made by a library board or staff member, and must be accompanied by three letters of support from the community. The nomination letter, limited to two pages, must include information about the library before the changes, the description of the library after the changes and details on how the nominee initiated these changes. Deadline for nominations is July 31, 2001 to Demita Gerber, Greenburgh Public Library, 300 Tarrytown Rd., Elmsford, NY 10523; gerber@westchesterlibraries.org; 914-993-1608. All you library directors out there, pass a copy of this bulletin on to your board -- if they dont already see it -- so they can nominate you! You are all very hardworking and deserve much recognition for it!
