FLLS HAS NEW YOUTH SERVICES COORDINATOR - AT LAST!!

I am so pleased to announce that we have hired a Youth Services Coordinator.  Diana McFarland will join the Finger Lakes Library System staff on or around June 1, 2001. It took some time but I am sure when you meet her you will all agree she is worth waiting for! She comes to us from the Cambridge, Massachusetts Public Library where she has worked as a children’s librarian first in the main library and then in a branch. Her experience and background are excellent. Diana also has roots in the area; her mother lives in Corning.

UPDATE: CIPA and the E-RATE

The FCC recently released the Report and Order (FCC 01-120), and regulations implementing the Children's Internet Protection Act and the Neighborhood Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA and NCIPA) for E-rate discount participants. A preliminary review of the Order indicates that the FCC will require E-rate program participants to comply with CIPA/NCIPA in Year 4. The "Year 4" is defined as the program funding year from July 1, 2001through June 30, 2002. The application period for those who applied for Year 4 discounts was from November 6, 2000 through January 18, 2001.

Watch your delivery for a memo containing more details.

MARISA IACOBUCCI, Adult Services Coordinator

Hi all! I am hoping that by now you all have received the information concerning the restructuring of the FLLS video collection. I have already received many completed profiles for deposit collections, and look forward to all those who are interested. Please feel free to call with any questions you may have. Thanks!

KATHY PARKHURST, Interlibrary Loan and Reference

Please mark your calendars for the April System Meeting on Thursday, April 26, 2001. The topic will be on Dynix Searching: Shortcuts, Tips & Tricks and it is designed for all member libraries and staff. Please look for a flyer that will be sent in the delivery containing more information and an RSVP form to send back to help us gear this workshop specifically to your needs!

We will have hands-on exercises, training manuals to take home, door prizes, food and refreshments and fun!

MELANIE HEMINGWAY, Outreach Coordinator

Youth Services Librarians:

The YSS conference scheduled for April 27th on Long Island, in case you were interested and hadn't yet registered, is now CLOSED OUT. NYLA-YSS planners had an overwhelming response and unfortunately could not accommodate everyone this year; they apologize if anyone has been inconvenienced or frustrated.  Efforts are being made to have the conference videotaped, so that those who cannot attend will be able to view it at a later date.
