Please all welcome the Powers Library and the Weedsport Library (two of the Cayuga Connect Libraries) to the Dynix community. The Weedsport Library started circulating last month and the Powers Library started last week. The next library on the list will be the Springport Free Library with a starting date of mid-June. Cayuga Connect is here and its happening.

"Ultimately ...information literate people are those who have learned
how to learn.
They know how to learn because they know how knowledge is organized, how to find
information, and how to use information in such a way that others can learn from
them.
They are people prepared for lifelong learning, because they can always find the
information needed for any task or decision at hand."

JUDY SWANN, Information Services Coordinator and Trainer
You all recently received a fax about the distance-education software that Im trying to purchase with next years LSTA grant. Such software would allow me to conduct training over the web and would allow you to log in a couple of times a week, at your convenience, in order to bone up on a particular aspect of your computer or to complete work assignments aimed at increasing your knowledge of computers and computer work.
The distance education software will be loaded here and you will log into your Internet browser to take the class(es). There are 2 classes, one is focused on PCs and one is focused on Internet. Each class is offered twice, each session of each class lasting for 8 weeks long and covering a topic every week or two. PC Class One goes from January 8 - March 30. PC class Two goes from April 2 - June 22. Internet One goes from January 8 to March 30. Internet Two goes from April 2 - June 22. They are totally self-study. You pace yourself, contribute what you can, benefit the system (by means of the FAQs, wizards, and useful articles that the coursework will produce) as well as yourself. You get in what you put out. You log in as often as you can. There are no grades. There is also course at the end of the grant period that is just for members of the general public.
I need a letter of support from each and every member library, even though the details are as yet to be worked out. Could you peruse the contents of the two courses below and pledge to take one or even both? One course focuses on PCs and the other on the Internet. If you yourself cannot commit, please commit another staff member.
Please sign and return the attached form before June 1, 2000!! Say yes!
