FLLS ANNUAL REPORT

We want to include information from each member library in the Annual Report that will be distributed at the Annual Meeting this fall. We are looking for a brief paragraph describing your library’s most significant accomplishment during the past year. Watch your delivery for the guidelines and response form.

GATES GRANTS

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the New York State Library have established the schedule of "Before Your Computer Arrives" (BYCA) Workshops for New York State. These workshops, which will prepare public libraries with approved applications for the implementation phase of the Gates Library Initiative, will be offered October 19-31. The Gates Foundation will send invitations for these workshops toward the end of August. Every library building participating in the grant program, both eligible and partial building grant libraries, will be invited to send one staff member, generally the director or technical person, to a workshop. So, watch your mailboxes!

Waverly Free Library started circulating on Dynix Monday August 1^st. On Friday August 11 they will also be fully integrated into the Dynix automated point-to-point Inter-library Loan process.

Springport Free Library in Union Springs started circulating on Dynix as part of the Cayuga Connect project on Monday August 7. They will also be moving to the automated point-to-point process in the very near future.

Welcome to both of these libraries and congratulations!

ANNE MLOD, Weedsport Library

The nine public libraries in Cayuga County will be participating in "Cayuga County Library Day" at Falcon Park on Sunday, August 20^th. Tickets to the Doubleday’s Baseball Game, which starts at 4:05 pm, can be purchased for $3.50 at any of the nine libraries in Cayuga County. A portion of each advanced sale ticket will benefit the libraries. "CayugaConnect" is an initiative developed by the public libraries in Cayuga County to link their collections electronically. Information on this exciting project will be available at the ballgame.
