On Wed. June 5, 2013 @ 5pm we'll be discussing Defending Jacob  by William Landay.

On Wed. July 10, 2013 @ 5pm we'll be discussing Juhmpa Lahiri's Unaccustomed Earth.

On Wed. August 7, 2013 @ 5pm we'll be discussing In Its Time  by local author Nancy Rehkugler.  Nancy will join us for the discussion!

We are always accepting new members.  Don't be intimidated, we are a laid back group--it's ok if you can't make every meeting or if you don't always have time to finish the book.

Computer Workshops

Tech Time One-on-One Assistance

Facebook (with Alyssa)

Mon. May 20 - 2:00-3:00pm

An introduction to Facebook--find out what it is, how it works, and how to stay safe.  There will be optional time at the end of the class to create your own Facebook account (an e-mail address is required if you would like to sign up for Facebook).

 

Genealogy Club (with Jenny)

Tues. May 21 - 6:00-7:30pm

Come share your genealogy experiences.  We will provide laptops, print and online resources, and a knowledgeable staff member to help with any computer or research questions.

 

Digital Photos (with Kim)

Thurs. May 23 - 5:00-6:30pm

Transfer, manage, and share your photos!  Included are instructions on transferring photos from your digital camera to your computer, managing photos, and how to share pictures via e-mail or a USB flash drive.

 

Craigslist (with Jenny)

Wed. May 29 - 5:00-6:00pm

Learn how to use Craigslist safely to save and make money.  Learn all about the great components of Craigslist--an online resource you can use to find jobs, apartments, and buy and sell goods.

Technology assistance by appointment ONLY on select days.  Please stop by, call, or e-mail Amy or Jenny to register.  We have expanded our help to include: eReaders & eBooks, iPads, Microsoft Office, basic computer skills, basic Internet, digital photos, social networking, and job/resume help.  We have daytime and evening h ours available.  When you sign up for a time-slot, please include the topic you would like to focus on.

Crafts Gardening Workshops

Open Knitting

Every Wednesday 

6:30 - 7:50pm

All sessions meet at the library.  The group is open to all levels of knitters--including those who would like to learn how to knit.  Bring your own yarn and needles or borrow ours for the session!

 

Kusudama Paper Flower Craft Workshop

Wed. May 22, 2013 - 2:00 - 4:00pm

The Japanese Kusudama is a paper ball made out of multiple identical origami shapes glued together.  They were traditionally used as a ball for incense or potpourri but now we see them more for decoration or as a gift.  All materials will be provided.  

Container Gardening Made Simple

Want to grow your own food but don't have the time or space to maintain a garden?  Container Gardening is for you.  Container gardening is perfect for apartments, porches, window frames and other small spaces.  Forget to water your plants?  Don't worry; self-watering containers can hold moisture for weeks at a time.  The mysteries will be unveiled: learn what plants do well in containers and how many you can fit in a small space, learn how to make your own self-watering container gardens customized to your needs and see examples.  Stay after class and make your own container garden for $5.00.

 

Black Gold Unveiled

Always wanted to compost but never knew how?  Worried you don't have the space or money or that it will be dirty or smelly?  Cornell Cooperative Extension is clearing away the dirt from home-composting.  Learn why composting matters, the dos and don'ts of composting, and the 411 on making your own indoor or outdoor compost bin for your home gardens.  Composting saves money on watering and fertilization while protecting our community from pollution and heavy landfill use.  Best of all it's thrifty, easy and fun.

Amanda Montgomery is an Agriculture and Nutrition Educator at the Cornell Cooperative Extension, serving as an AmeriCorps intern.  She is a certified Master Gardener Student with a bachelors in archaeology and agriculture and professional experience with grafting, propogation, ornamental plant identification and maintenance, and landscaping.
